We’ve become passionate hikers. We started hiking in California a few years back and while there, a woman from Chile told us about the Camino de Santiago in Spain. The Camino has become a tradition for us, and we like to hike a different route each year to the city of Santiago. Meeting new people, trying different types of food/wine/beer and staying in a new town/hotel each night makes each day an adventure.
New York is a great bicycling city and I have logged 1,256 miles on city streets and burned 54,000 calories as a result according to my CitiBike app. And, yes, I wear a helmet. Traffic is too nuts not to, good hair be damned. If I need to clear my head I shoot up to the park or across the bridge and simply ride til I magically start to feel revitalized.
With all the cooking and eating I have to do for my job (I know, it’s a tough life!!), exercise is important for me to stay fit. I’ve been a slow and steady runner since I was 18, and love the meditative aspects of running in Prospect Park (which I do three times a week).
Building strong muscles not only makes for greater mobility, a better metabolism and a healthier brain, but it might help us live longer as well. One study of more than 80,000 people found that those who strength trained had a 23% reduction in risk of premature death by any means, and a 31% reduction in cancer-related death.
I am a slave to products that don’t make my sensitive skin break out. For that reason my default face lotion is Aveeno. But I am also a HUGE fan of my friend Mark Rice’s beauty line called Ogee. I use the face serumtwice a day.
When I’m not getting the glam treatment in salon I use David Mallet’s products. His Fresh Eau de Concombre is a refreshing spritz for body and hair and the Blush spray keeps my color fresh between appointments. I sleep with a silk pillowcase to keep my hair smooth and I hear it helps with your skin as well.
I also love SoulCycle. The people at every studio are so lovely (especially my Seattle studio), it’s such a great workout and it really clears my head. I try to go three times a week if possible. I just finished my 100th class.
My biggest secret is sleep. I think I need more sleep than most people and I don’t really fight it. I have to get eight hours a night to have a productive day, and many times I get nine. I think it’s one of the single biggest changes I’ve made in my life in the last decade that has impacted my health and well being.
I was a wellness lover way before it became so popular. My mom was a bit of a hippie, and as a nurse, she started me on things like vitamin C, probiotics and bone broth as well as things like homemade toothpaste and deodorant at a young age.
In the shower I use my Resurface Scrub all over my body. It makes my skin feel so smooth and like it’s breathing. I hardly wash my hair but I will get it wet just to refresh the texture. Out of the shower, I use my Deep Serum and massage it into my skin.
Now onto my absolute favorite chapstick/light lip gloss. I want to eat it, it smells so good. I keep one of my Hurraw! tinted lip balmspractically in each room in my house and panic if I can’t find it.
ZIIP. I am the founder of this company so full disclosure, but I promise you, it’s amazing. It does the work and delivers. People are addicted. This is a way to bypass all the confusing marketing out there about better absorption, cellular turn over, more collagen, get a facelift without the facelift, and on and on and on about different products and how they can do all of these magical things for you, no problem. When in doubt, or just overwhelmed, I use the app Think Dirty which categorizes beauty products by toxicity level. Skin is our biggest organ, and you’d be SHOCKED at how many carcinogens are packed into those pricey luxury products.
My fitness obsession is Muay Thai /Boxing/ Kick Boxing / MMAand I pretty much spend my time watching motivational videos about Muay Thai /Boxing / Kick Boxing / MMA, attending live Muay Thai / Boxing/ Kick Boxing/ MMA events and talking a lot about Muay Thai / Boxing / Kick Boxing / MMA.
Well, this year I am finally realizing a dream of training for and running in the NYC Marathon on November 8. I am following the NYRR virtual training program for 16 weeks, and keeping my eye on the prize (which is the photo of me at the finish line in my Mylar blanket).
When it comes to my hair, I just keep it short, wash it every other day, soak it in a combo of ghee and coconut oil about once a quarter and do lots of head stands. They say head stands actually trigger hair growth. Who knew?
I have microcurrent machines and they help with collagen, firmness and elasticity. I meditate on my own and chant mantras too. And pray to God a lot because that’s all that’s left when you look around at the world we live in.
Gentle yoga + meditation are core aspects to my wellness routine. I focus on movement that really nourishes me from the inside out. Nothing makes me feel more grounded and centered within myself and body.
I have a serious issue when it comes to beauty products, so I’m really going to do my best to pare it down here. But please be patient with me because I don’t want to leave anything out. This is what’s in my current rotation, in no particular order. (Also, no judging. It’s a lot. I know).
It’s funny, I started out in tech, but find wellness and skincare so much more fascinating. At The Detox Market, we really do try everything to see if we like it, and how it performs, so I end up being a guinea pig for all kinds of masks and toners and treatments I might not normally use.
I pretty much live and die by a strong lip. I have like, 542 different tinted balms, lipsticks, stains and glosses on me at all times. But my all-time favorite shade is this CHANEL Rouge Allure 99 Pirate. It's the perfect shade of red.
I love yoga and pilates, but rarely am able to go so it’s more of a past love. (Points for honesty?) I guess my current exercise is trying to balance motherhood, being a wife, and owning, designing, and creative directing The Last Line.
For the past six years, I have started each new year with a special Indagare retreat at Mii Amo in Sedona Arizona, my favorite spa for nurturing. The hiking and the healers are amazing. In fact, I’m here now! This year we have Elizabeth Lesser, the co-founder of the Omega Institute, leading sessions.
For me, wellness starts with a good facial from Georgia Louise in New York, in fact I would say that the one major thing I miss about living in NYC is being able to see her regularly. I also always travel with always travel with her Butterfly Massage Stone.
Although I'll stray from time to time, I try to make beauty decisions consciously. Being aware of ingredients and packaging and the ethical commitments of the companies behind each product. I make a lot of homemade masks and cleansers using oats and honey and my roommate is always coming home to find me with food on my face, literally.
Bari has also helped my coordination. My younger sister is a hip hop dancer yet I barely have rhythm. After taking Bari’s bounce class (basically dance combos on a trampoline and toning in between) my rhythm has gotten so much better.
I belong to a Chicago chapter of US Masters Swimming. For anyone who swam while they were growing up, it’s a great way to get back into it. Not only is it good exercise, it’s a good release for a super competitive person like me.

We have a house in upstate NY and when I'm there I try to go to this wonderful yoga studio. Maybe it’s because I am already more relaxed from being outside of a big city, but I leave the classes feeling refreshed and standing straighter and taller.
I just started working out. Maybe it's the combination of the Miami sunshine, having two babies in under two years and wanting to live in super tiny cut off shorts, but I have become really into exercising.
I'm fighting a lot of skin issues right now: breakouts, brown spots, wrinkles, enlarged pores. Basically, I'm impossible to look at, so I've been wearing a paper bag over my head. I've been promised, though, that if I use any of the following products, I'll be able to take it off soon. (and p.s.: I just started taking collagen, which I've also been told will be a game changer. I'll keep you posted).
I don’t believe in diets. When your work consists of eating out up to five times a day, it would be ridiculous to stop one day and start fasting. The Californian Diet which I consider to be a lot of avocados, a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables, and very "flexitarian": not a lot of meat, not a lot of gluten, is great enough for me
My favorite “beauty” treatment would be the Mayan sweat lodges in Mexico. It’s like a sauna on steroids, but with a spiritual aspect to it and it really helps to detox and cleanse your body, you definitely sweat the toxins out.
